Shadowheart cosplay guide: camp outfit vs Justiciar armour vs the Wavemother's Robe
Shadowheart is one of the most cosplayed characters in Baldur's Gate 3, partly because she has three completely different looks — and that means the first decision is not how to build her, but which version you are building. They differ enormously in difficulty, comfort and how they behave on a convention floor.

The three builds
| Build | What it is | Difficulty | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Camp outfit | Top, pants and chest prop — her off-duty clothes | Lowest | First cosplay, long convention days, comfortable group shoots |
| Justiciar armour | Breastplate, pauldrons and layered dress over a vest and skirt | Highest | Competitions, dramatic photoshoots, standing out in a line-up |
| Wavemother's Robe | A single flowing gown with a deep neckline and the matching necklace | Medium | Character-accurate Act 3 looks, portrait and dusk shoots |
If you are new to cosplay, the camp outfit is the sensible starting point. It is the fewest pieces, it sits close to the body, and it is the only one of the three you can comfortably wear for six hours without thinking about it. The armour is the most impressive but also the most work to fit, because the breastplate and pauldrons have to sit on your actual shoulders rather than approximately on them.
What makes or breaks each build
- Camp outfit — the fit. These are the garments closest to the body, so an approximate size shows immediately. Accurate measurements matter more here than anywhere else.
- Justiciar armour — the shoulder line. Pauldrons that float, tilt or sit too low will ruin the silhouette regardless of how good the breastplate is.
- Wavemother's Robe — the drape. This is one long garment, so it lives or dies on how the fabric falls from the shoulder. Pulling and bunching are the usual failure modes.
Hair, makeup and the Sharran palette
Shadowheart's look changes across the game, so decide early whether you are doing her dark-haired Act 1 appearance or her white-haired Act 3 version, and keep the whole costume consistent with that choice. Her facial markings and the silver jewellery are the details that make a generic cleric read as Shadowheart specifically.

Common questions
Which Shadowheart cosplay should a beginner start with?
The camp outfit. It is the fewest pieces, the most comfortable to wear and the most forgiving at a convention, while still being instantly recognisable next to the rest of a Baldur's Gate 3 group.
Is the Justiciar armour worth the extra cost?
If you are entering a competition, doing a staged photoshoot or want the most striking version of the character, yes. It is a genuinely structural build with a fitted breastplate and pauldrons, and it photographs better than the fabric builds under con lighting.
Can I cosplay Shadowheart without the Wavemother's Robe being blue?
Yes. Dark or black versions are extremely common and widely accepted in the cosplay community, even though the in-game item is aqua.
